Listen before assuming
People can use the same words and mean very different things. Asking what respect, fairness or responsibility looks like in daily life helps make a conversation more concrete.
MEDIATION AS A WAY OF THINKING
The New Partnership Method was developed by Nadav Nishri through his work in mediation. It brings attention to people’s emotions, the practical realities of their situation and the future they want to create.
Its central question is: how would we like life to look from here? Exploring that question can help people describe what matters to them and consider how their decisions affect one another.

A SPACE FOR LEARNING & UNDERSTANDING
People can use the same words and mean very different things. Asking what respect, fairness or responsibility looks like in daily life helps make a conversation more concrete.
Anger, disappointment and fear can affect what people hear and how they respond. Recognising those experiences can help participants express their concerns and identify the needs behind their positions.
A conversation about the future invites people to think about relationships, responsibilities and the consequences of possible choices. Their wishes may differ. Understanding those differences gives them something specific to discuss.
When people develop an agreement, they need to understand what it means in practice: who will do what, when they will review it and how they will address future disagreements.
In an everyday disagreement, try asking: “What would you like to be different after this conversation?” Listen to the answer and check that you have understood before adding your own view.
The 10-lesson online course introduces mediation and the New Partnership Method. It offers a starting point for understanding the approach. It is an introductory course, rather than a complete professional mediator qualification.
