What Are the Advantages of Mediation?

Short scheduling time – you can schedule a meeting from one day to another. From the moment the conflict has risen, you can schedule a mediation meeting with the other party and generate an agreed solution. It is widely known that the earlier things are solved, the easier, more creative and faster the solution will be, certainly compared to cases in which legal proceedings started and threats to press charges were made.

The process is very short – an average mediation process lasts only a few hours. A conflict that goes on for years in court can be solved within a few hours, over a few days or couple of weeks at the most.

Low costs – the mediation process is much cheaper than legal proceedings. The cost of divorce mediation is between 6,000 NIS and 26,000 NIS (depending on the length of the process). This cost includes the preparation of the divorce agreement or a marital- harmony agreement.

No bureaucracy – no need to file any documents or papers for the first stage, and often never. The process is built on a conversation between two people so all you have to bring is yourself and a lot of optimism.

Complete confidentiality – Unlike legal proceedings conducted in court, the entire mediation process is confidential and cannot be used outside the mediation room. This is a great advantage if you want to keep your life private and not to share it in the open.

Maintaining a functioning relationship – legal proceedings bring out the worst in men. The legal language sharpens the dispute, making it extreme and leading to alienation and anger between individuals who were once partners, spouses or good friends. Mediation, on the other hand, reinforces the widest common grounds between the parties and helps them strengthen it. After having a strong common ground, it is easier to find a creative solution agreed on all parties.

Complete control over your life – in a mediation process, the parties themselves decide, rather than anyone else. This is different from legal proceedings in which another individual (a judge) gets to decide the destiny of other people, often against their will.

Creative and empowering solutions – the legal language cannot make room for the thought that out of controversy and conflicts, cooperations can grow. Mediation, however, considers the crisis as an opportunity to improve existing relationships. The solutions offered by mediation are not limited by time, place or parties involved.
